How to prepare a lesson;
Yearly plan should be used as the teacher’s roadmap. Every week teachers should check the yearly plan to prepare the lesson.

Class Preparation Steps:

Teachers should spend two times more time than the class time to prepare a lesson.

All topics should be read carefully.

Prepare bell works. A Five minutes bell work helps your students settle and start working while you are making your preparations for the class.

Couple questions from last week’s topic to resresh their mind about what they have learned so far.

Vocabulary words. Take into consideration of your students’ english level and prepare vocabulary words for your students.

Questions about the day’s topic to get them in the mood for what they will learn.

If you are going to show a video make sure everything is ready ahead of time so the instruction time wouldn’t be wasted.

Prepare a short quiz which shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes.

Plan your questions ahead of time and point out these questions while you are teaching the class.

You may give some rewards (stickers, pencils, treats etc.) as incentives.

Topics:
Topic names listed in this category is from the textbook itself and should be taught for the week. According to the level and pace of the students some of the topics might be skipped.

Material:
Material shows the book name and the page numbers for the book. Let’s examine the example in the picture above. ITH 3-13; “ITH” is the abbreviaton of the book’s name as well as 3-13 stands for the page numbers.

Multimedia:
Videos from different sources are added for most of the weeks. Teachers should watch the video while preparing for the lesson. If he/she thinks the video would be beneficial and understandable for the students video should be showed to the students. Instruction time is very short and should be used effectively. For this reason environment should be prepared to show the video as getting the speakers, connecting to the projector, locating the video and opening the right moment of the video should be set ahead of time.

Assessment Homework:
Most of the afterschool programs prefer to not give homeworks to the students as afterschool program already takes most of the student’s time. However, every once in a while short and easy homeworks can be given to the students.
Assessment should be a part of the instruction. Since students are not expected to spend so much time for the school other than the hours spent in the program itself, assessments can be short quizzes at the end of the every class or every chapter with multiple answer and short open ended questions. These short and easy quizzes at the end should encourage to students to participate class and take notes of the important things. Possible questions might be told to the students during the class in order to get student’s attention. -
Week:
One book is divided into 35 weeks for an academic year. Teachers should plan their academic year according to the weekly articles listed in every individual week.

Duration:
40 Minutes is minimum class duration for instruction. If time and conditions allow duration could be extended to 50 minutes.
