HAJJ

 

The Hajj is one of the FIVE PILLARS of Islam and therefore an obligation to be performed at least once in an adult Muslim’s life.

The Hajj occurs around Mecca during the 8th and 13th day of Dhul-Hijjah in the last month of the Islamic year.

 

STAGE OF THE HAJJ
Preparing for the journey IHRAM

Wash the body (ghusi) and change into white clothes (men) or modest clothes (women) making the intention (niyyah), reciting talbiyah prayer. Then travel into Mecca.

 

WASH

HAJJ RITES IN MECCA

Tawaf– walking around the Kaba seven times and calling out a response.

The Say –moving through the hills of Safa and Marwah imitating Hagar’s search for water.

Drink from the Zamzam well at Mina.

 

WALK

HAJJ RITES IN THE DESERT

Travel through Mina Valley to Plain of Arafat. Tents overnight at Mina then to Arafat. Move to Muzdalifa and stand before God facing Mount of Mercy praying from noon till sunset.

 

SLEEP /PRAY

MINA VALLEY AND CONCLUSION OF HAJJ

Leave for Mina and throw pebbles at Jamras (large stones representing the devil). Nahr or sacrifice of an animal. (Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac)

Return to Mecca – Tawaf al-Ifada (walking around the Kaba) and say (collect water and wash) and stone the pillars. Also time for resting and prayer. Finish with Eid celebration.
