The 2nd Annual New Jersey Quran Competition was held at Turkish Cultural Center Clifton on Saturday May 20, 2017. North East Islamic Community Center (NEICC) and Turkish Cultural Center (TCC) in New Jersey have together organized a phenomenal Qur’an Competition for Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School students.
North East Islamic Community Center (NEICC) had the honor of organizing their second Qur’an reading Contest. During this year students had the privilege of studying with dedicated teachers to help advance their reading and memorization of the Qur’an. 90 students participated from state of New Jersey, 25 were selected to compete in the contest.
The competition ranked based on first, second and third places with many students closely tied with their remarkable performances. The prizes consisted of books as well as gift card awards.
The 2nd Annual New York Quran Competition was held at main building of North East Islamic Community Center Brooklyn on Saturday May 20, 2017. North East Islamic Community Center (NEICC) and Turkish Cultural Center (TCC) in New York have together organized a phenomenal Qur’an Competition for Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School students.
The program began with recitation of Qur’an and the “azan”(call to prayer) recited by a student. The opening speech was given by Orhan Cetin the vice president of North East Islamic Community Center. The program later continued with stage performance by students. The performance that left a mark was the ilahi “prayer to my mother” prepared by the kids academy students. The musician and the composer Ertugrul Erkisi and his friends “Istanbul Trio” contributed with nasheeds from Turkish classical music. 52 students have competed in three different categories; surah memorization, reciting the Quran and special talent. From each category first place students were awarded $100 ( Gift Card), second place were given $75 ( Gift Card) and third place were given $50 (Gift Card). The program ended with congratulating and rewarding all the competitors with participation medals.
NEICC NJ held its monthly social family night on Friday, May 5th, 2017 at TCC Clifton. Families of all different backgrounds came together to enjoy the community event and socialize with friends with a pot luck dinner. After the dinner, the audience watched a video which gives a great lesson on being a truthful and compassionate human being. Then, the guest speaker Levent Koch, who is CEO of NETA Scholars, gave a speech about how to live together peacefully with a slide show presentation including various examples during the time of the Prophet Muhammad and his successors, especially the 2nd caliph Omar.
