Building Bridges: Witness for Peace
First United Methodist Church in Millersville, PA organized a panel with Turkish Cultural Center of PA, United Campus Ministry, and Congregation Shaarai Shomayim. The event started outside of the Millersville University around the pond. Later due to weather conditions, it continued in parish. Mr. Basri Dursun, a volunteer of Northeast Islamic Community Center (NEICC) held a presentation about fundamental concepts of Islam towards other religious people and building blocks of peaceful community by referring Qur’anic verses. All participants of three religions presented their views for peaceful society with harmony. At the end of the panel, they announced a common wish for peaceful communities to exist with different religious faiths.
The event was coordinated by Millersville Community UMC as part of their informative events for local members. After panel participants enjoyed Turkish food, baklava and home-made pastries. TCCPENN in accordance with its mission participates such events to promote a better understanding of religion among people of different faiths.
