The month of Recep, which is accepted as one of the three holy months by Muslims around the world, started last Thursday. The three holy months, Recep, Saban and Ramazan are believed to be the months which God’s Compassion and Blessings are in abundance. During the holy months, there are also certain days which are believed to be more sacred than the rest. The first of these sacred days is known as the night of Regaip. This day, especially during the night, is time for extra prayer for all Muslims.

To celebrate Regaip, North East Islamic Community Center of New York Branch organized a very special program. A friendship dinner was held to bring together our friends all around New York who were mostly fasting. After a delicious traditional Turkish cuisine, all the guests prayed together for the world peace. Later in the evening, Mr. Savas Cetinkaya, who works for North East Islamic Community Center of New York as a religious instructor, talked about how the word ‘’Islam’’ meant a peace and also about the importance of a world peace. ‘’We are all brothers and sisters’’ said Mr. Cetinkaya as he stressed the importance of spreading the message of peace and love in bringing the conflicts and the fighting to an end.

The evening came to an end with a group prayer and many of the attendees acknowledged that they would like to see more programs like this in the near future.
