THE LEADERS OF THE QURAYSH LISTENED TO THE RECITATION OF THE QUR’AN IN SECRET

While the Prophet was praying at home one night, the leading figures of the polytheists such as Abu Sufyan, Abu Jahl and Ahnas, stood hidden in the darkness and listened to the recitation of the Qur’an. Unaware of one another’s presence, they were so absorbed in the Prophet’s recitation that they remained there until dawn. As they were about to leave at dawn break, the three men noticed one another. Each began to condemn the other for listening to the Qur’an, and agreed not to do such a thing again saying that this would certainly raise suspicion and doubt if they were seen by others.

But this happened again the next day, and on the third consecutive day the three men said “We cannot continue doing this!” so each of them vowed not to go there again.

Clearly, the hearts were unable to escape from the delightful, fascinating effects of the Qur’an. However, aspects such as tribal ties, personal vengeance, the battle for leadership and jealousy was preventing them from embracing Islam.
