wisdom of oaths in the Qur’an

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Oaths are sworn upon different things in the Qur’an. What is the divine wisdom of such oaths?

There are a number of things that are sworn on in the Qur’an. Such oaths may have been taken on something due either to the virtue of that thing, due to its usefulness, or because it is a glorious proof. Also, such oaths emphasize the importance of the thing that is sworn on, exalting it or drawing people’s attention to the advice, lessons, benefits or losses that are contained in it. Some scholars state that the reason God swore upon His creatures is because they provide evidence for what is being discussed.
